Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-02 · Version 1.0
TL;DR
  • ContextPass is in pre-launch beta. Things may change or break.
  • Use it for legitimate personalization, not for surveillance or profiling.
  • You can stop using it anytime. We may stop offering it anytime.
  • No warranties. Use at your own risk during beta.

About ContextPass

ContextPass is a user-owned context wallet for the agentic web. We let users save preferences locally, approve sharing with sites and AI agents, and revoke access anytime. The service is operated by Jeffrey Thompson as a solo project.

Pre-launch / beta status

ContextPass is currently pre-launch. Features may change without notice. The service may pause, break, or shut down. The wallet schema may change in ways that require re-importing or re-creating. Don't rely on ContextPass for critical decisions until we exit beta.

Your responsibilities

By using ContextPass, you agree to:

  • Use the service only for lawful purposes
  • Not impersonate other users
  • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise extract source code beyond what is publicly available
  • Not abuse our APIs, forms, or signup endpoints
  • Not use ContextPass to surveil, profile, or sell user data — that is the exact opposite of what this product is for
  • Not use the service if you are under 18

Merchant terms (when pilots open)

When merchant pilots become available, additional terms apply if you integrate ContextPass into your store. By integrating, you agree to:

  • Use ContextPass-shared context only for the personalization purpose declared in the consent grant
  • Honor user revocations within 24 hours
  • Not combine or correlate pairwise IDs across ContextPass-enabled stores
  • Not store ContextPass-shared context beyond the retention window declared in the grant
  • Not infer additional attributes from the data shared (e.g., demographic guessing)
  • Disclose any data breaches to ContextPass and affected users within 72 hours

Detailed merchant agreements will be issued separately when pilot programs launch.

Intellectual property

The ContextPass name, logo, and mark are property of the operator. The protocol concepts, consent receipt format, and pairwise ID scheme will be released under an open standard (planned). Until then, do not redistribute the source code without permission.

No warranties

ContextPass is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ContextPass and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from:

  • Your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the service
  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the service, including merchants who have integrated ContextPass
  • Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold ContextPass harmless from claims arising out of your violation of these terms or your unlawful use of the service.

Termination

You can stop using ContextPass at any time — clear your wallet, delete your email from our list, walk away. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or use the service in ways that harm other users.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and the date at the top will change. Continued use of ContextPass means agreement to the updated terms.

Disclaimer

These terms are written in plain English to reflect how the product actually operates. They are not a substitute for formal legal advice. ContextPass is operated by Jeffrey Thompson as a solo, pre-incorporation project. A formal Terms of Service will replace this document when ContextPass becomes a registered legal entity. If you are a user, merchant, or partner needing more comprehensive terms, contact the email above.
